Remi Chandran is the Project manager of Wildlife Enforcement Monitoring System (WEMS) project. He started his career in 1998 working for the Government of India on environmental policy and natural resources and has extensive experience working on water and biodiversity issues.
Mr. Chandran joined United Nations University in 2003 and his research concerns the impact of globalization and trade on biodiversity, enforcement and compliance of environmental conventions and the role of United Nations in monitoring compliance. He was instrumental in developing the WEMS model, which is now being considered by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for implementing as a national project. He was also quoted by several media including Reuters, Kyodo news and Japan Times for his work on the WEMS project.
Remi Chandran is a postgraduate in Agriculture from University College Dublin and is also the recipient of the Irish Government Fellowship.
